I just got lectured by a little bird.
We were sitting on the patio on a beautiful day in Scottsdale Arizona having lunch. Actually it was about 104 deg. but the water misters were right above us so it felt like the perfect day.
During the end of our lunch we started noticing a few little birds pacing around our table. One more pint of beer and I would probably be writing that they were talking to us.
When I threw a bread crumb to the curb a little birdie grabbed the crumb by its peak and held on to it with its dear life. The surprising part was that it did not relish in its new found gift but instead kept pacing right in front of us.
The bird kept pacing in search for more potential crumbs to be dropped on the ground, wanting more even though the piece it had was not even finished.
How reflective is that of us humans, greedy greedy greedy. No matter how much we have, even when we are blessed by abundance, we want more and in turn lose sight of what we have right in front of us.
Its like the market boom we had prior to the drop in the housing market. I met clients that had made close to 100% on their property. The only reason they held on to it is the potential to make another 20%. Inturn some of them lost majority of their profits.
If we are not careful it will never be enough: The new car, the new house, new clothes, next toy, reacting to every phone call…
We need to be aware of what we have, the gifts we are fortunate to receive, the friends, family, children etc.
When we focus so much on wanting more we lose sight of the beauty we already have right in front of us.
So I ask you, over the long weekend what specifically did you cherish in your life?
Fred Sarkari

Very true Fred. We all work very hard to get ahead and have “stuff”. I am a firm believer that “stuff” doesn’t make us happy and actually clutters our lives. Over the long weekend I remembered how important friends are and how they touch our lives. I am a far richer person for the people that I have in my life. Just one clarification though….I don’t condsider shoes, stuff. They are a necessity!

Jocelynn, thanks for the comments.
It is so true what you say. Nothing has value if the right people do not surround our lives.
I am very goal oriented, but never at the expense of true priorities and the value of todays experiences.
We will let you keep your shoes.
Thanks for the reality check!
We all have the ability to be happy … right now. The insane desire for more makes the life we have feel like nothing!
Get off the merry go round!
Mike
Fred,
I feel you are right.. People tend to not stop and think of all the things they have to be thankful for, being greatful for what we already have is important. although, in my own life i have found that experience has taught me something.. sometimes i have felt that i truly had a gift in front of me, but to my surprise it wasnt a gift at all rather just any empty package wrapped really nice. Possibly the little bird had something bigger in mind… crumbs are nice but maybe he wanted something just a bit bigger:) Maybe he has been talking to Donald Trump:) Thinking Big is something that the Donald has mastered.. correct me if i am wrong, but i think it has paid off. I do believe the phrase the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, its unfortunate but true, we see it proved true time and again. As far as the housing market i think we would all agree that timing is everything.. none of us have a crystal ball but the people who have been in the game a long time go with their gut.. I bet the clients you spoke of felt something when the timing was actually right, possibly they ignored it and paid the price. But yes in the end we dont leave this world with any of our material possessions so we need to remember what is important and its probably not the car or the house or anything else that money can buy, its all of the other things that can never be bought with money. The way others remember us is important and what God thinks of us is what matters most. When I finally meet the Lord face to face i want to hear him say one thing more than anything else.. and that is “Well done thy good and faithful servant”
Mt 25:21
Holly, your comment on (you thought you had a gift in front of you.)
You did have a gift in front of you. It just wasn’t the specific gift you expected.
The true gift was it gave you a deeper awareness of who you are.
That is a priceless gift.
