My Surf Board Taught Me The Most Critical Lesson

What a perfect moment I experienced today.

We were sitting on our surfboards waiting for the next magical wave as the sun was blaring on our sore muscles.  Just as I thought to myself of jumping into the water to cool my body off, we started to experience sun showers.  And than there it was the most amazing double rainbow I have ever seen.  They were so bright that I felt like swimming over and surfing the rainbow themselves.

I wished to myself I had a camera to capture this moment.  Now hours later it occurred to me that this was one of those moments that was carved into my memory – an image that was more vibrant than any picture.

What was it about this moment that it was photographed with fine details into my memory?  Than it occurred to me that it made me feel.  It was an experience that elicited emotions within me.

-

Experience linked to emotions will stay with us for all time.

-

What a powerful lesson to take with me.  When we communicate with people, do we connect to their emotions in order to leave behind a lasting experience.

Always ask yourself after every interaction, what emotions did I leave behind?

I feel so blessed on this trip.  Beautiful weather, warm ocean, great people, great fun and some great sessions with courageous people that are so open to looking within themselves.

Look around you as there is beauty in every moment.

    Hi Fred

For this reason I have very few pictures in photo albums showing my life.
Experiences is sooo much more than just what you see and I feel a lot of people miss out by seeing just a bit of it through a camera.

      Mad, you are so right.

When we rely too much on our eye sight we at times forget to feel the moments that cross our path.

Fred I so agree with you the outward beauty we see is a picture we will always keep in our hearts.
The memories will always stay with us creating a fondness and a reaction to anything else similar coming up at us in the future.
Your rainbows will help those of us who have seen beauty in nature
and to just sit back reflect and enjoy what we have.
Thank you for sharing your moment with us

Vivian, thank you for such a great comment. It reminded me how important it is to take the time to keep those memories bright and vibrant within our minds.

I took 30 seconds to reflect on the rainbow again and now I feel like I have charged my mind for hours.

It is true in deed .

  5. Thank you for sharing your NOW moment with me. It just emphasies when living in the NOW we listen , see and feel the experience at that moment. I believe ” the feeling that a person/ customer has when they leave, will be the deciding factor if they return”

Bonnie, glad you enjoyed the read.

I read your line a few times as there is so much importance to it -” See and feel the experience at that moment.” .

    My Dear Fred:
Thank you for sharing the BLISS OF THE MOMENT.
It is in this moment that we experience the gift of “BEING”.
    Furthermore,
The lens of the camera does not capture the same panoramic beauty as the lens of our heart and spirit.

With Blessings of love and light to you from

    Meher Amalsad

In the spirit of riding the Hawaiian rainbow with you Fred….I was watching TV the other day and there were some Charlie Chaplin quotes used that just really hit me in the gut….fanbloodytastic (as my English friends would say)!
“To truly laugh, you must be able to take your pain, and play with it!”
“Laughter is the tonic, the relief, the surcease for pain.”
“Nothing is permanent in this wicked world – not even our troubles”
Several people close to me are fighting cancer and dealing with the physical and emotional pain of the disease. As a cancer survivor I can tell you that laughter is good medicine and that mental pictures are very powerful as a healing tool. Rarely do I take a photograph using a camera. I know in my soul that when I take a mental photograph in that moment, for me it represents celebrating the joy of living. On my cancer journey I created a mental picture of a battle. Much more fierce than Patton or McCarthy had ever fought. one of bubble wrap representing cancer cells and chemo representing warriors fighting. I used to sit in the Cancer Clinic and visualize the entire battle, smells, sounds, attack strategy, all of it. I’d even sit there and say outload…”take that you bloody buggers”…And so I am still here taking mental pictures nine years later.
It is possible to have a mental picture of what life represents and to grab onto it in your mind and take youreslf to that special place where you know there is joy in living…..this under any circumstances if you have the courage to do so.

      Jo Jo,

Thanks for the amazing comments and sharing your journey. You are an inspiration to many. There is so much courage within Cancer fighters. You should be proud of who you are and who you are becoming.
